A tour of The Orkney Brewery gives you a first-hand, behind-the-scenes insight into our craft of brewing quality fine ales. We’ll start with a fascinating look into the building’s past, and some background on our business and what we do.

Moving through to the Brewhouse, where the magic happens, we’ll take you through our process step-by-step and let you get your hands on some of the ingredients that give our ales their distinctive flavours. We can’t tell you all our secrets – but we’ll share what we can.

Your guide will then take you through the sights and smells of the brewing process, including a peek into the fermentation vessels. Guests who can’t access the viewing gallery will be able to follow this part of the tour through specially-provided photography. You’ll also get the chance to ask questions. Like how many casks in a barrel? Or why is the Dark Island hiding under the stairs?

Brewing in Orkney goes back a long way. Our specially-created timeline lets you travel through 5000 years of history, traditions and crafts in just a few minutes. That takes you to the present day, where the casks are being filled for nationwide distribution. You can read more about the history here.

Then finally it’s time for a taste. Sample some of our wares, choose your favourite, then head for the tasting hall to try more!

Tours last around 20 minutes, depending on the size of your group and how many questions you ask, not to mention the length of answers from our enthusiastic tour guides. Ale sampling at the end of your tour can be enjoyed for as long as you wish!

Private tours can also be arranged so please contact us for more information.
